## What It Is

Sermorelin is a synthetic peptide consisting of the first 29 amino acids of GHRH. It was previously FDA-approved under the brand name Geref for diagnosing and treating growth hormone deficiency in children. It stimulates the pituitary to release growth hormone in a pulsatile, physiological manner. Though the branded product was discontinued, it remains available through compounding pharmacies. In 2026, sermorelin continues to be one of the most commonly prescribed GHRH analogs at anti-aging and hormone optimization clinics, valued for its physiological pulsatile GH release pattern and established safety profile. It is frequently combined with ipamorelin (a GHRP) in clinical protocols to synergistically enhance GH output while minimizing cortisol and prolactin elevation. Sermorelin's shorter half-life compared to CJC-1295 (DAC) is viewed as both a limitation and an advantage — it better mimics the body's natural GH pulsatility. On April 15, 2026, the FDA removed sermorelin from Category 2 as part of a broader reclassification of 12 peptides, reinstating its eligibility for 503A bulk compounding under physician prescription. This regulatory shift followed HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s February 2026 announcement that most peptides placed on the Category 2 list in 2023 would be moved back to Category 1. In June 2026, telehealth company Noom finalized its acquisition of Tailor Made Compounding, a licensed 503A compounding pharmacy operating in 46 states, and announced plans to add sermorelin to its prescription formulary as part of an expansion into healthy-aging services — a sign that major consumer telehealth platforms are building regulated peptide supply chains ahead of the FDA's July 2026 PCAC compounding review.

Also known as: GRF 1-29, Geref

## Regulatory Status

Category 1 - Bulk Compounding
